Job Description

Your role Director of Data and Analytics at the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) will be to drive the delivery of product platforms and data initiatives that enable the PRI mission to create a sustainable global financial system by encouraging investors to incorporate environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors into their investments.   

You will be responsible for managing the lifecycle of our existing set of products and data services that enable this mission while taking a leading role in the delivery of PRI’s exciting new Progression Pathways platform which offers our signatories tailored guidance and support, assessment and improvement, best practices sharing, accountability and transparency, and long-term value creation in responsible investment practices.

Core Responsibilities

Data analytics and visualisation:

  • Support the Chief RIS Officer in delivering against the team’s business plan and budget.
  • Leading teams / being the ‘face’ of the team: 
  • Lead the data engineering, data analysis, product platform, and data product teams to develop and implement data-driven solutions for RI and ESG. 
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to the product platform team, data engineering, analytics, and data product teams to ensure their ongoing development and success, ensuring that they are motivated, engaged, and aligned with PRI’s goals and values.
  • Provide regular reporting to the Chief RI Solutions Officer as required including budget, operational and product reporting and providing input to Executive and Board reports. 
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, partners, and internal teams. This will involve communicating effectively, managing expectations, and ensuring that all stakeholders are kept up to date on delivery progress. 

Platform Focus: 

  • Lead on the technical design, implementation and continuous development of the following PRI Products & Services: 
  • Progression Pathways platform.
  • Reporting Platform(s): the Reporting Tool, the Data Platform and the annual reports, data analysis tools for internal use. 
  • Collaboration Platform.
  • Derived data tools and services for internal and external use. 
  • Provide oversight of the management of several external supplier organisations to PRI who are involved in the development, support and operation of the PRI Products and Services listed above. 
  • Work with the Head of Platforms and the Reporting Frameworks team to develop a Technical Product strategy that achieves integration, scalability, and innovation of platform solutions that enhance member engagement, support our mission and Responsible Investment. 

Data Related Focus 

  • Work with the Head of Data Engineering to develop a Data Strategy for PRI that outlines how the organisation will collect, integrate, manage, analyse and use data to help deliver our mission while implementing best practices for the data governance, quality assurance, and security of our member’s data. 
  • Work with IT and the wider RI Solutions team to determine and develop data management strategies and associated architecture. 
  • Establish a ’data community’ across PRI that enhances the use of reported and other RI and ESG data, building upon the existing Data Champions network to identify opportunities to leverage data and improve our business outcomes acting as PRIs senior ‘data champion’ advocating for the PRI data community and its needs. 
  • Provide thought leadership on data management and analytics, staying up to date with the latest trends and developments in data engineering, associated science and technologies including analytical tools. This will involve attending conferences, networking with industry professionals, and conducting research. 
  • Collaborate with other teams within PRI, including RI Ecosystem, marketing, and client services, to identify and support opportunities for data-driven insights.

Person Specification

  • Leadership skills (including role-modelling positive behaviours, being genuine and vulnerable, driving change and making things happen) and the ability to think strategically and systemically and act for the long-term benefit of the organisation.
  • Well-developed people management skills (including providing feedback & challenge,
  • Coaching and developing individuals) and the ability to build and lead high performing hybrid teams (ideally data engineering, data science, platform and/or data product teams).
  • IT/Digital skills including experience of implementing and managing the continuous development of data product platforms.
  • Significant and substantive subject matter expertise in data and performance metrics.
  • Significant understanding of data science, analytics, and/or a related field.
  • Excellent written communication and verbal presentation skills.
  • A collaborative and consultative approach to working with others & committed to fostering an inclusive environment.
  • Desirable: very good programme management skills, with experience in delivering complex projects successfully, including directing others that may not be your direct reports.
  • Desirable: High degree of familiarity with corporate sustainability reporting and / or impact reporting frameworks and investor disclosure frameworks.
