Latin American and the Caribbean Finance and Biodiversity Day at CBD COP16

At COP16, finance takes center stage, with Finance and Biodiversity Day focusing on mobilizing resources and aligning financial flows with the Global Biodiversity Framework’s vision and mission.

Understanding the unique challenges and opportunities Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) countries face in protecting nature and financing biodiversity initiatives, and seizing the momentum of COP16, the organizations below have joined efforts to announce the first Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) Finance and Biodiversity Day at COP16. This event, created by and for Latin America and the Caribbean, enriches global discussions with regional insights and solutions, setting a precedent for future COPs and highlighting the importance of regional approaches in achieving global sustainability goals.

By grounding these discussions in the specific contexts of Latin America and the Caribbean, we ensure that the outcomes are practical and actionable, addressing the needs and conditions of our region while contributing to global objectives.

This event will bring together key stakeholders to discuss policy challenges and opportunities as well as innovative financial solutions and strategies to address the urgent need for biodiversity conservation and a just transition for all. It aims to foster the creation of a roadmap to COP30, strengthening the nature-climate nexus to build on existing efforts leveraging the experience of leading countries in the region, emphasizing the interconnection among biodiversity protection, climate change, and social inclusion, contributing to the global Nature Positive for Climate Action call to action, and leveraging the progress made by the leading countries in our region.

Las finanzas son una prioridad en la COP16. El Día del Financiamiento y la Biodiversidad tiene como objetivo apoyar la movilización de recursos y la alineación de los flujos financieros con la visión y misión del Marco Global de Biodiversidad.

Entendiendo los desafíos y oportunidades únicos que enfrentan los países de América Latina y el Caribe en la protección de la naturaleza y la financiación de iniciativas de biodiversidad, y aprovechando el impulso generado por la celebración de la COP16, las organizaciones que figuran a continuación han unido esfuerzos para anunciar el primer Día de Finanzas y Biodiversidad de América Latina y el Caribe (ALC) en la COP16, un espacio de América Latina para América Latina, en el que los debates mundiales se enriquecen con ideas y soluciones regionales. Este evento regional pretende sentar un precedente para futuras COP, demostrando la importancia de los enfoques regionales para alcanzar los objetivos globales de sostenibilidad.

Al basar estos debates en los contextos específicos de América Latina y el Caribe, podemos garantizar que los resultados sean prácticos y aplicables, abordando las necesidades y condiciones de nuestros territorios y contribuyendo al mismo tiempo a los objetivos mundiales.

Este evento reunirá a las principales partes interesadas para debatir sobre los retos y las oportunidades, así como sobre soluciones y estrategias financieras innovadoras para abordar la urgente necesidad de conservar la biodiversidad y lograr una transición justa para todas y todos en la región. Este enfoque colaborativo nos ayudará a crear una hoja de ruta hacia la COP30, fomentando el fuerte nexo entre naturaleza, clima e inclusión social; contribuir a la llamada a la acción mundial del Nature Positive for Climate Action call to action, y aprovechar los progresos realizados por los países líderes de nuestra región.
